Well, I've been putting it off long enough. With another school semester winding to a close, the time has again come to work on the Chrono Trigger fan-fic - which I refer to as "Project Unity" since it incorporates elements seen in other people's previously released works. While there are at present only four fully written out chapters from the first book, I have written a wealth of notes and partially completed scenes that are only waiting for the full-narrative treatment.
Over the past week, I have finalized several major plot points that will differ notably from canon works (Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross). A risky proposition, since deviating from canon overmuch tends to generate lots of hate with popular franchises such as this. But I am gaining more confidence by the day that this is the way to go. Of particular note is how I intend to describe the events of the ruined age of 2300 G.D. (Guardian Date) What happens here will have even greater import on the course of the world than long-time fans will expect.
I have also developed further how the endgame will play out - though I am a LONG ways from putting that to paper. When the plot is developed to a point that I can start writing some test-scenes between major characters, it is close to being finalized. Right now, I estimate the overall plot of the story - encompassing four volumes altogether - to be about 60% complete. Considering that I was at around 50% when December began, my confidence has been rising like the ballons at the Millennial Fair. It seems unlikely in the extreme that this project will die.
For those who have already read my completed chapters (available at the Chrono Compendium in the Fan-Fiction forum), feel free to draw some pictures or whatever strikes your fancy. I would love to see one of the new GATO - which is quite a bit different from the Gato seen in the original game. Lucca is also seen in gaudy carnival attire for her telepod presentation.
